Free Rollin’ About The Office

Last week we talked about how important it is to take them time to clean your office chair regularly and to make sure the small maintenance jobs are done at least about every six months. These things can seriously and severely increase the life of your office chair. Refer back to last week’s post if you need a refresher.

Even if you do a pretty good job of wiping down your office chair and tightening the screws and bolts that keep it together, many people forget to clean a very important part of their chair, the wheels. Office chairs with wheels are a lifesaver and can help you maintain appropriate posture when moving and reaching about your office. Nothing is quite as annoying as a chair that has useless wheels. You know what I am talking about, you sit down and go to roll over to the other side of the desk and the wheels catch and you try to wiggle it over anyways but your efforts are pointless.

Most often, wheels start catching and not moving smoothly because they are dirty. They might just need a good wipe down or you may need to take some time to remove any built up hair or strings that those wheels picked up as you wheeled your chair around the office.

The thing is, you found the perfect office chair and it is equipped with wheels, so why would you not take the time to ensure proper movement and ability? Here are a few tips to help you keep your chair rolling and your wheels happy.

First, you should take the time to check your wheels for anything large enough to impact movement regularly, probably every other week or so. It is easier to remove smaller amounts of hair or a few strings instead of a garble of things that has built up over months. This will help your chair stay moving freely and smoothly.

Second, it can be a great idea to wipe down the wheels with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or dust that is beginning to build up and impact the range of mobility as well. Simply lay your chair over on its side and wipe the wheels one at a time by spinning the wheel slowly while wiping about the grime.

Taking the few moments to do these simple and easy tasks will help your office chair last longer and keep you from experiencing the frustrating moments when your wheels catch and you can’t move about the way you want! It will also help you not have to purchase new parts or even a new chair as often!
