How To Get That Promotion At Work (Pt. 1)

Most people want to work upwards in their organization to a specific job or position. Maybe it has better pay, is more of what you want to do every day, or you like the benefits that position offers. Whatever your reason for wanting to move up in your company, we put together some of the best tips to help you get there. Read below to start your upward journey today!

Picture Yourself Where You Want To Be

Looking forward to what you can achieve or where you really want to be can help you stay motivated when things feel like they aren’t moving very fast. Remember that you are in it for the long haul and that requires some patience with yourself and with your organization and those that are higher up. On the days that feel particularly mundane, take a moment to reflect on your long term goals and where you will be in the future if you put in the work today.

Writing down your goals can help you stay focused on the big picture and has been shown to help people achieve their goals more often than those people that don’t write them down. If it sounds helpful, write down your long term goals and then break them down into several short term goals that will help you get there. This can help you see the progress you have made towards your goals!

Work Hard And Do Your Best

As you excel in your current position, keep a positive and happy attitude, and show your worth and potential, you are sure to be considered for promotions. Even when you are having a bad day, do your best to get all your work done and complete tasks efficiently. Being able to focus on the current task shows your boss that you are an asset to the company. If possible, go above and beyond what you are expected to do. Consider helping coworkers with large projects if you have spare time, or even check in with your boss to see if there is something you can do to help them directly.

There are many more ways to help you get to that dream job, but most require you to do some intense work. See part two of this blog series next week for more tips and ways to help you get that promotion and move up in your company!
